Sade and John Legend LIVE – tour dates

Sade and John Legend are going on tour together starting this summer.  I am so excited, as should you be. Sade has the most unique and soothing voice I – and many others – have ever heard.  Since the 1980s, her and her band have continually produced a timeless portfolio of music, lyrics, and imagery.  Graceful and beautiful, Sade is ageless and a classic you don’t want to miss.  Technically, the name “Sade” is considered the name of the band she is in – who are spectacular as well.  Her name is Sade Abu, her father was Nigerian and her mother was English.  She currently lives in the UK.  Regardless of the many adaptations of “Smooth Operator,” “No Ordinary Love,” and countless others, no one can do it like Sade.  John Legend has been sharing his undeniable talent in the mainstream entertainment industry since 2004 with his debut “Get Lifted.”  A singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, John Legend continues to evolve to the next level.  The texture of his voice is to die for (figuratively of course).  His lyrics always have a message to make you feel good, to make you think, and to make you stay active in the community.  He also shows this by example, in particular with education.  He is from Springfield, Ohio, started playing the piano when he was 4 years old, graduated from  high school at the age of 16 as salutatorian, and is a University of Pennsylvania alum.   Not all the tour dates are up, but the summer and early fall are set.  You definitely need to check them out if they are in your area.

The Hair Adventure continues

…sitting on a light orange couch surrounded by snapshots of natural styles, it finally sunk in that I was about to do the big chop.  She approached me and asked, “Are you ready?”  Excited and nervous, I replied, “yes.”  She sat me in the salon chair and started rummaging in a drawer.  Then she took out…the scissors….

Nneka is a German-Nigerian hip hop/soul singer and songwriter.  She made her debut album – “Victim of Truth” – in Germany in 2005, which impressed many audiences – including Lauryn Hill and Lenny Kravitz.  She performed at many festivals and tours around Western Europe.  In 2008, her second album, “No Longer at Ease,” had more of a political tone and reflected the issues and corruption in the Niger Delta.  Her single “Heartbeat” was her first song to break into the German Top 50 listing.  She toured in France, Portugal, and Italy.  She also collaborated with Lenny Kravitz on his French tour in April of 2009.  She won an award for Best African Act at the Channel O Music Video Awards in 2009.  Check Nneka out.

Les Nubians

One of my favorite artists.  This sister duo from Cameroon/France has been rocking and soothing audiences since 1995.  Their genres include afropean, soul, R&B, hip hop, neo-soul, and spoken word soul. They have a chic afrocentric style that I love.  My favorite album is “Princesses Nubiennes.” PLUS, they are the only artists that I have heard who can sing a Sade song and not ruin it. Les Nubians are currently on tour and the tickets don’t seem too expensive.  You might want to see them if they happen to be near by.

Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars LIVE – tour dates

Janelle Monae is one of the most refreshing and entertaining individuals in the industry right now.  She has also become my fashion muse…but she doesn’t know it yet 🙂 Bruno Mars…I am still getting used to.  Have yet to fully listen to his album, but after his performance at the grammy’s – and if that is what he is bringing to the tour – the show might be worthwhile.  Even their publicity poster is cool – reminds me of the days of James Brown and Stevie Wonder (haha like I was there).  So, I’m planning to go…if you are a fan of either one or open to exposure, I recommend you check them out too.
